1080v15 no longer uses the older foam name

The generation matters especially here: New Balance lists Infinion cushioning in the 1080v15, while the Fresh Foam X 880v15 retains Fresh Foam X. Older 1080 reviews discussing Fresh Foam X describe earlier versions. A broad shopping query may still include that familiar wording, so check the version number and manufacturer description before drawing conclusions about the shoe being sold.

Both current models belong to New Balance’s neutral running range. Their foam labels cannot establish which is better for plantar fasciitis, and the 1080’s position in the range is not evidence that its shape will fit your foot better.

Compare the underfoot feel without assuming a hierarchy

Try the two models with the same intended use in mind. For daily walking, concentrate on comfort at walking pace and during pauses. For running, only assess an easy running stride if running is already appropriate for you; do not use a new shoe purchase as permission to run through symptoms.

Notice whether the heel settles securely and whether the forefoot has enough room as you move forward. A cushioning impression can change when you tighten the upper or introduce an insert, so finalize those details before choosing a preferred ride.

Treat width and volume as separate questions

New Balance offers multiple widths in both product families, but stock and width ranges vary by version and by men’s or women’s listing. Check the exact combination you intend to buy. A wider option can relieve lateral crowding without necessarily providing the instep depth an orthotic requires.

If both shoes fit, choose according to the movement and cushioning you actually prefer rather than their model numbers. If neither accommodates the heel or insert comfortably, the comparison has already answered something useful: another shape may serve you better than moving up or down the same numbered range.
