Bondi 9 and Clifton 10 serve different cushioning preferences
The Bondi 9 is the cushioning-focused option in this comparison; the Clifton 10 is another neutral everyday running shoe with a different ride and shape. Neither is HOKA’s dedicated stability counterpart. Bondi’s supercritical EVA and Clifton’s compression-molded EVA describe their construction, not evidence that either will resolve plantar fasciitis.
Start with the walking or running experience you want to improve. Someone replacing a comfortable Clifton may prefer evaluating the next Clifton before assuming a thicker-looking Bondi is an upgrade. Someone finding their present shoe harsh can use the Bondi as a contrasting candidate, while keeping fit and control in the decision.
Compare the transition at your actual pace
HOKA describes a MetaRocker geometry on the Clifton 10. A rolling transition is worth assessing during ordinary walking as well as quicker strides: a shoe that feels natural while jogging may feel different when queueing, turning in a hallway, or taking short steps around a kitchen.
Try both shoes on both feet, then exchange them rather than relying only on a split-foot comparison. Walk slowly, pause, and turn. Notice whether you can settle comfortably over the platform without deliberately changing your stride. Do not interpret an unfamiliar rocking sensation as something you must learn to tolerate.
Choose around the limiting fit issue
If the Bondi feels bulky but the Clifton holds your heel comfortably, the latter deserves consideration even when maximum cushioning sounds appealing. If the Clifton concentrates pressure beneath the heel, try the Bondi without assuming that its upper will fit identically.
Bring your normal socks and any prescribed insert. An insert can change how high the heel sits inside each shoe, so repeat the walking comparison after fitting it. Keep the version number visible when ordering: a review of an older Bondi or Clifton cannot establish the fit of these two generations.
