Separate wearing a running shoe from running
Many running shoes offer cushioning and structured uppers that can make them reasonable candidates for everyday wear. That does not establish that running itself is appropriate while heel pain is active. Choosing a shoe and deciding an activity level are separate questions.
Tell the fitter whether you need a pair for errands, walking or training. The same running category contains shoes built for very different purposes, and a specialized racing design need not be the sensible starting point for ordinary daily use.
Assess the slow parts of the day
Walk at your normal pace, turn and stand in the candidate. A shoe described as responsive at speed may feel different during a slow journey or a long pause. Check the heel collar and forefoot space rather than judging solely from the amount of foam.
If the pair must accommodate an insert, bring it to the fitting and confirm the required liner arrangement. Do not buy a running model simply because its predecessor worked with a device; new versions can change the interior.
Respect other requirements
A running outsole is not automatically suitable for a slippery workplace, and breathable mesh does not satisfy every protection requirement. Narrow the choices to shoes that meet the real setting before considering comfort preferences.
Running permission is a separate question
For exercise, follow the activity advice in your management plan rather than using new cushioning as permission to push through symptoms. A running shoe can be useful without being a treatment in itself. Keep the benefit specific: a better fit for a necessary activity, rather than a claim that the product has made all running safe.
